Validity / Due diligence search
It is a very focused search on the claims of a patent carried out in order to identify possible previous documents that could invalidate a patent even if granted, or useful to evaluate its effective scope of protection for strategic decisions and for due diligence.
The search is technically similar to a patentability one but more focused and complex, considering that expert examiners already examined the claimed invention and did not find prior art enough relevant during the examination procedure.
